New Drug May Delay Onset of Insulin-Dependent Type 1 Diabetes Among Those at High Risk

Sep 9, 2019

On its website, ABC News reports that teplizumab “may delay the onset of insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetes in those who are at high risk for the autoimmune disease, according to the results of a trial published in New England Journal of Medicine.” The drug “trial found that the percentage of patients who did not contract Type 1 diabetes was about twice as high (57%) in the drug therapy group than the placebo group (28%) during five years of monitoring.” Depending on “FDA approval the drug could be on the market by the end of 2021, according to chief financial officer for Provention Bio, Andy Drechsler.”
