Study Finds Youth Vaping Levels Dropped Significantly During Pandemic

Jun 15, 2021

The Seventy Four reports a survey from Stanford University of more than 2,000 people aged 13 to 24 from May 2020 found, “About two-thirds of [adolescent and young adult] e-cigarette users were either quitting or cutting back,” according to study co-author Bonnie Halpern-Felsher. The study found that youth who reduced “their vape use reported higher awareness of and worry for lung damage caused by e-cigarettes. And data from the National Institutes of Health show more young people than ever before now see vaping as risky or harmful.” Halpern-Felsher’s study also found that higher levels of nicotine dependency and total usage made a young person less likely to quit vaping during the pandemic. According to the Seventy Four, “Many of those who were most addicted had increased their use due to quarantine stress and boredom.”
